Extreme weather conditions led to a significant increase price of new rice in Taiwan

The spring climate characterized by high temperatures and short-term heavy rainfall resulted in agricultural losses for Taiwan. The Agricultural Department of Taiwan’s report on agricultural disasters caused by heavy rainfall in late April of the 113th year (2024) indicated that various crops including vegetables, fruits, and first-phase rice were all affected by the heavy rain disaster. Among them, rice crops suffered a damage level of 20%, impacting the harvest area.

Under the influence of an abnormal climate characterized by generally high temperatures and excessive rainfall, the yield of new rice in Taiwan decreased, leading to a significant increase in the price of new rice.
